Study Questions

  1. When have you been part of a wild cheering section? What were you cheering? Did you have great expectations? If so, were they met?
  2. Read Luke 19:1-10. What do we learn about Zacchaeus from his response? What was the issue with the people in the crowd (verse 7)? What lesson did Jesus teach through his actions?
  3. In Luke 19:28-40, we read of Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Who is cheering? Who is grumbling? What do you think Jesus may have been thinking or feeling as the scene unfolded? His disciples? The religious leaders?
  4. In the midst of triumph, why did Jesus come to tears (19:41-44)? Why did Jesus take such bold action (19:45-48)? Why was Jesus so direct with the religious leaders (20:1-19)?
  5. Luke 19:10 has been called Jesus' purpose statement in the book. How do you feel about Jesus seeking you out to save you? 
  6. What do you find hard to understand about Jesus, his actions, or his statements? What draws you to him? How do you cheer for Jesus?
