Study Questions

1. Do you trust the Bible to be the inspired Word of God? What parts do you trust most? What parts do you struggle to trust or understand?

2. What difficulties have you (or others) encountered as you have studied Genesis?

3. Who or what is the driving focus of Scripture? Why doesn’t the Bible give us complete knowledge about everything we’d like?

4. Where have you seen sin “spoil” God’s best in a person’s life? How does sin leave us with inferior, or even sinful alternatives? Can you give an example in your life?

5. What is the difference between “describing” and “prescribing” something? What does the Bible unapologetically describe? What things does it explicitly prescribe?

6. What parallels to you see between the creation narrative of Adam and family (Genesis 1-4) and the recreation narrative of Noah and family (Genesis 6-10)?

7. Read Hebrews 11:7. What is the role of faith in Noah’s salvation? What is the role of our faith?

8. Read 1 Peter 3:18-22. In what ways is Noah’s salvation “in” an ark “through water” a metaphor for baptism “through water” and “into” Christ?

9. Read Genesis 2:25, 3:7, 3:21, 9:20-23. In what ways do we try to cover our shame? Read Romans 10:11, Galatians 3:27. In what ways does God cover our shame?

10. What steps of faith do you need to take next to trust Jesus for salvation and covering?
